Guest Speaker: Peter Ameerali, Lawyer with the Ministry of Attorney General for British Columbia
Topic: Civil Forfeiture and its impact/interplay with mortgage lenders.
Peter Ameerali is married to a lawyer, with whom he raises two tough negotiators, which has been the best training he received in managing contentious civil litigation. Formally, Peter holds a BA from UBC and a JD from the University of Victoria, and since graduating has guest lectured at both schools. Peter has been legal counsel with the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General for the Province of British Columbia since 2005. He regularly appeared in court as counsel for the Director of Civil Forfeiture from the genesis of the program in June 2006 until the fall of 2014, and has since appeared in a number of cases as constitutional counsel for the Attorney General of BC . He has written and presented on the topic of civil forfeiture many times, including at law schools, CBA meetings, CLE courses and to the National Judges Institute.
