Christina DeMarco is the Manager of Regional Development with Metro Vancouver (formerly called the GVRD). She has worked as a city planner and regional planner in Toronto, Vancouver, and Sydney, Canberra and Perth in Australia. She specializes in the relationship between land use and transportation planning; with particular emphasis on how job location shape regions and cities. During her ten years in Australia she worked on the metropolitan plans for Sydney, Canberra, and Perth. As a planner with the City of Vancouver she was author of the City's Industrial Land Strategy and a team member on both the City's Transportation Plan and the overall CityPlan. At Metro Vancouver her central project is the preparation of a new long term growth management strategy for the region. "Metro Vancouver 2040: Shaping Our Future", the new regional growth management strategy, has been several years in the making and it is expected to be enacted by the Metro Vancouver Board in the spring of 2011. She has a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Toronto. She is the co-author of two planning books, "Planning Sydney's Future", and "On a Human Scale A Life in City Design".
