Topic

Asian Canadians: United in Diversity

featuring

"Andy’s Story on the Vietnam Exodus"

From 1975 as the war in Vietnam was ending through the remainder of the 1970s, over a million people fled the country.  Some were fearful of reprisals and repression, some were mired in economic hardship, but all were in search of a better tomorrow.  Also referred to as “boat people”, many of them made the perilous journey across open seas only to languish in refugee camps throughout South East Asia.  Andy Pham and his family were some of the lucky ones who eventually made their way to Canada. The MIABC is proud to have Andy share his family’s story on the Exodus of Vietnam in honour of May being Asian Heritage Month, as part of a larger discussion on the role that diversity can play in our shared industry and society at large.
