Derek Townsend

Derek Townsend began his real estate career with CitiFund in 2012. Focusing on the rental apartment market, he quickly became CitiFund Capital's leading expert and a market leader in CMHC and conventional financing structures for apartment construction, repositioning and acquisition. CitiFund now represents a robust apartment business with clients ranging from private investors to REITs.
As the leader of the firm's apartment business line, CitiFund has funded over 575 mortgages totaling over $3.3B in debt origination since 2012. Beyond structuring debt, Derek is a dedicated volunteer and leader in the industry and community which provided him he opportunity to be awarded the 2019 Canadian Real Estate Industry Outstanding Young Leader Award. He is in his second, non-concurrent term as an board member with UDI U40, a current board member of Landlord BC, a past board member of MIABC and a mentor to many young professionals in the industry.

Mike Sagert is responsible for executing on the corporate strategy for the CMHC Insured Multi Unit business line. Mike has nearly 20 years of experience in the Canadian mortgage industry.
Prior to joining CMLS in January of 2019, Mike spent 11 years at CMHC in various roles including quality assurance oversight, risk management, multi unit underwriting and business development.

Matt Muir is the Director of Commercial Real Estate at Coast Capital Savings and leads a 10 person team at the downtown Vancouver office. A graduate of UBC’s Sauder School of Business, Matt spent time working in appraisal, brokerage, and land acquisitions before moving into banking and commercial lending with TD Bank, and now Coast Capital.
Coast Capital’s real estate group provides both term and construction financing across all asset types, with loan exposure of over $4B spread throughout BC, as well as major urban markets across Canada.
Garth Stoll
HSBC
Garth Stoll is Vice President and Regional Head of HSBC Bank’s Real Estate Group and based in Vancouver. With 30+ years of real estate banking experience, responsibilities include loan origination, syndications, portfolio management and client engagement/management. While active across asset class lines, he is particularly focused in the areas of development finance and the provision of acquisition debt.
